
It says the new terminal is needed to enhance the country’s position as a global aviation hub
and to fend off competition from airports in Dubai, Bangkok and Beijing.
The government has invested heavily in building and upgrading airport infrastructure. The US$1.2 billion Terminal 3 started operations on 9 January this year while US$350 million
has been allocated to upgrade Terminal 1. A U$170 million makeover of Terminal 2 was
completed in 2006.
Singapore’s Budget Terminal will also undergo a US$7 million expansion.
