Joanna Lu
Senior Expert Partner
Bain & Company
China
Joanna Lu is a marketing visionary whose 25-year career exemplifies a T-shaped leadership model: deep operational roots in global FMCG, fused with future-back strategic architecture for the digital age.
Her professional foundation was built during a decade at Unilever China, where she drove brand growth and orchestrated complex supply chain transformations. This was followed by a distinguished 15-year tenure at The Coca-Cola Company, where she rose to chief marketing officer for Greater China, South Korea, and Mongolia. She spearheaded iconic global campaigns like ‘Taste the Feeling,’ built billion-dollar brands such as Minute Maid Pulpy, and was honoured as one of Asia Pacific's most influential CMOs in Campaign’s inaugural Power List in 2018.
In 2021, driven by a mission to lead the wave for the changing marketing industry, Lu pivoted to Bain & Company. The impact was immediate and profound, culminating in her 2025 promotion to senior expert partner. She now serves as the top-level growth architect for a portfolio of Asia Pacific's leading consumer goods and retail companies.
Lu's legacy extends through the leaders she has built. Over 25 years, she has developed over 20 CMOs now leading major APAC FMCGs. Her 2024 book, Brand DNA, codifies a systematic roadmap for digital-age brand building. She served as a Cannes Lions Judge for Creative Business Transformation in 2023, and her influence extends through her CEIBS Business Review column and Hundun Academy curriculum.
To Quote: “Joanna embodies the essence of this award…. She is the essential ‘translator’ between classic FMCG and the complex digital ecosystem defining our future.” -Curt Ferguson, Former CEO, Greater China & Korea, The Coca-Cola Company
