Wu, formerly regional talent director for WPP, replaces Ken Hoskin, who joined McCann in 2012 and recently took up an equivalent position at Airbnb. The role at McCann was newly created when Hoskin joined. Randy Duax has replaced Wu at WPP.

According to a statement from McCann, Wu will relocate from Shanghai to Singapore and work closely with the agency’s global management team to build talent across the network. Charles Cadell, McCann’s Asia-Pacific president, described Wu as “the best there is” with regard to talent and said his joining was “another boost to the ongoing McCann success story in the region”.

“I look forward to pursuing a career within McCann Worldgroup where I can be closer operationally while broadening my scope of work,” Wu said. “I’m especially happy to be joining McCann during a period of explosive growth.”

Wu was at WPP for the past 10 years, a period he described as “an incredible learning journey”. He started out at Ogilvy and took on the WPP network role in 2009. Highlights during that period included establishing WPP talent management teams across four Asian markets (China, Singapore, Japan and Australia), and helping launch the WPP School of Marketing Communications in Shanghai.
