JAKARTA - Starcom Indonesia has won the estimated US$15 million media account for new mobile operator Smart Telecom, seeing off competition from Carat, DraftFCB and MindShare.

The Publicis Groupe media agency landed the business million after four rounds of presentations.
While TBWA and DraftFCB had picked up the telco's creative business early this year (Media, 23 January), the media pitch had been delayed because of operational difficulties at the new telco, owned by local conglomerate Sinarmas.

Ravi Bhaya, GM, Starcom Indonesia, commented: “The CDMA market, of which Smart Telecom is a part, has at least five different players. It’s very competitive. Our focus has been on TV, print and outdoor advertising for the launch."

There are currently more than 10 telco firms in Indonesia, with Telkomsel and IndoSat dominating the market.
