SATELLITE & CABLE: Thai TV moving to digital broadcast

Terrestrial television stations in Thailand are investing in

digital broadcast facilities to diversify their income stream.

BEC World Plc, the holding company of Channel 3 in Thailand, plans to

invest 200 million baht (USdollars 4.57 million) in its multimedia

venture.

The multimedia centre will produce digital television content for the

channel and will convert its existing analogue programming content into

digital format.

The digital content produced by the center will commercially distribute

via the Internet, WAP phones and interactive TVs.

BEC has also set up a new subsidiary, BEC Multimedia, as the company's

multimedia arm to take charge of digital TV development and business.
