ONE-TO-ONE MARKETING: Google launches Chinese version of AdWords plan

According to Pixel Media CEO Kevin Huang, the service enables Google to target advertisers in Greater China, where the majority of online searches are in the Chinese language.

The advertisers' text-based ads will appear above and to the right of Google's web search results and will be targeted by keywords to match information the user is searching for. The cost-per-click system means advertisers only pay when ads are clicked on. According to Google, ad campaigns can be launched at HK$40 (about US$5).

James Mi, product manager at Google, added: "This is a pay-per-click services; it's about US five cents per click. For a few highly popular search key words, we provide different ad positions, which advertisers can bid for."
