HONG KONG: Tribal DDB has launched a messaging-based service for
the South China Morning Post's classifiedpost.com called The Hunting
Card, which uses 'active buddy'-style technology.
The service works by sending jobs from the classifiedpost.com to users'
computers. The messages can be tailored to individual profiles and
specific industries.
A relatively new service in Asia, 'active buddy' is popular terminology
for messaging-type software. According to Jimmy Poon, Tribal DDB
regional director, the technology can have far reaching implications for
internet usage and marketing, depending on factors such as audience
demographics, market viability and client willingness. The Hunting Card
CD-Rom, shaped as a business card, is available at a local coffee chain,
and features ad space. The software is presently used by Capitol
Record's Googly Minotaur for music promotions.
