
HONG KONG Ford Motor Company chief designer Chelsia Lau walked away with the top honour as the World's Outstanding Chinese Designer, at the recent Business of Design Week event.
Lau, credited with "juxtaposing engineering and art within the automotive context", added the accolade to a number of other awards.
Lau has been in the automotive industry for 15 years.
'For a young Chinese woman to be holding her present post in a key industry, is a significant achievement," said lcoal designer Lo Kai-Yin, one of the category's judges.
In the Design For Asia category, brands recognised included Apple for its iPod and iPod nano products, LG, Lane Crawford and Samsung.
Lau joined Ford in 1992, and has worked across both its US and European operations.
