Dim Sum launches free TV channel

HONG KONG Dim Sum Television Company is to launch a free TV channel, targeting the "new Cantonese culture" of the Pearl River Delta audience via a mix of infotainment and drama.

Scheduled to rollout on Now TV in the first quarter of 2007, Dim Sum TV is positioning itself as the first channel dedicated solely to the Pearl River Delta.

'Each day the channel will offer 19 hours of infotainment including brand new original programming alongside well-loved dramas," said Dim Sum Television CEO Kit Szeto. "At the initial launch 40 per cent of our schedules will be filled with original programming, a figure we aim to increase over time. "

"Our original content includes an eclectic mix of chat shows, game shows and lifestyle magazines all presented with the unique slant of the new Cantonese culture."

Southern China's position at the forefront of China's economic development has led to an increasingly mobile, and affluent, PRD population, added Szeto. 'Dim Sum offers viewers a choice where previously there was only a Hong Kong or Guangzhou point of view."
