The service, which is set to cost Rmb 5 (around US$0.70) per month, will deliver multimedia news twice-daily in both languages, focused on categories such as ‘Top News’, ‘Biz Info’, ‘Celebrity news’ and ‘Language tips’. The China Daily Mobile News service is aimed at a broad range of clients: foreign officials, college students, embassy personnel and foreign companies.

The launch comes after a record month for China Mobile with seven million new subscribers, and the editor-in-chief of China Daily’s website, Gao Anming, has expressed the hope that the service will benefit from the anticipated three million visitors during the Beijing Olympics.
