Top 10 hilarious TVCs for April Fool's Day

In the light-hearted spirit of April Fool's Day, Campaign Asia has compiled a list of 10 funny television commercials from across the globe. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

The perfect TVC to kick things of on April Fool's Day is a prank-oriented one featuring liquor brand Captain Morgan. A woman decides to phone her boyfriend who is happily enjoying himself at a bar, but is supposed to be too sick to attend her cousin's wedding. He cleverly devises a way to get himself out of a sticky situation.

Beer manufacturer Heineken provides a comical perspective on why men really are from Mars and women are from Venus in this TV ad from the Netherlands. A woman gives her lady friends a tour of her home during a party, and eventually leads them to their dream area of the house: a walk-in closet. Little do they know that the men have their own happy place.

This commercial from the Philippines promoting Fita biscuits gives a light-hearted take on the old adage 'you only get what you give'. Down to his last biscuit, a young guy is approached by an old lady beggar who turns out to be a fairy in disguise who grants him a wish after he gives her the biscuit. However, it seems his good deed was only half-hearted.

Tension and high drama is in the air as this TVC from Electrolux in China immediately puts you on the scene of a suicide attempt by a man threatening to jump off the roof of his multi-storey apartment area. Luckily, a hardworking lady was there to save the day.

Publicis Thailand gives us an entertaining mix of romance, tragedy and comedy in this television commercial featuring Shera Flexy Board. Two geckos star in the ad, but their love story is abruptly ended by a Thai family's poor choice of materials for their ceiling.

Virgin Atlantic underscores one of the biggest problems customers have with airlines these days with this seemingly romantic TVC between two men set to the background music of Bee Gees' 'How deep is your love' ballad. The commercial features the men meeting at a karaoke bar, frolicking at a picnic, paddling a canoe, sharing a photo booth moment and even sharing a scene reminiscent of the movie 'Ghost'.

Toyota's 'Nothing soft gets in' commercial highlights how country Australians view city people as 'soft' and don't care much about their 'soft' city ways or 'soft' cars and possessions. The mock-documentary TVC shows a 'country Australia border security' defending their country border by preventing any 'soft' city stuff from getting into their tough country, including hairdryers, tofu and turned-up collars, among others.

This Malaysian ad shows how a guy with low self-esteem sees his life from his point of view. This classic zero-to-hero, feel good story also utilises humour to show how he gets a little help from TV network Astro to earn respect from society.

Castlemaine XXXX provides a hilarious take on the importance of beer to men. The commercial features a pick-up truck loaded with beer crossing over an old, rickety wooden bridge that falls apart halfway and leaves the passengers suspended on the remaining parts of the bridge. The two men in front then make a decision on how to get rid of excess weight at the back of the truck.

Finally, here's a TVC from insurance firm Centraal Beheer that starts off with a normal trip by a man going in to get an acupuncture treatment. Unfortunately, the building he visits goes on fire, and he's left in a prickly situation.
