UPDATE: Kidlat Awards 2011 honour best Philippine creative agencies

THE PHILIPPINES - Awards aplenty were given out at the Kidlat Awards 2011 held at the Boracay Regency Ballroom in the Philippines on 4 May, honouring the top creative agencies in the country.

In all, a total of 107 medals were awarded, including nine gold, 26 silver and 72 bronze. The event is a collaboration between the Creative Guild of the Philippines and the Kapisanan ng mga BroadKaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) 

Jury presidents group creative director Chris Chiu of Leo Burnett Singapore and Creative Juice ECD Thirasak Tanapatanakul were in charge of handing out the gold medals in each individual category.

Leo Burnett Manila won the most golds with five in the Diwa, Craft and Design categories. Breaking it down, their 'Fluorescent candle' for WWF Earth Hour won in Design and Diwa Direct, their Samurai 'Night watchman' and WWF Sea Creatures 'Shark' in Craft, while the agency's WWF 'Dangerous beneath' won the gold in Diwa Outdoor category. Leo Burnett Manila also added three silvers and 10 bronze medals to its haul for the event.

BBDO Guerrero Proximity Philippines garnered the biggest combined medal tally with 31 awards, including three golds, five silvers and 23 bronze awards. The agency had the only Kidlat Golds in the main categories, with gold in Digital for FedEx 'Our changing world, which also won gold in Craft, and 'Bottle school' for Pepsi in Integrated. Other works that BBDO Guerrero was awarded for include Anlene, Apple Box, FedEx, Pepsi and Saridon.

"The thing that made me really proud was that so many of our key clients were represented at the highest levels, and therefore so many of our teams. It feels like a win for the entire agency," remarked David Guerrero, chairman and chief creative officer at BBDO Guerrero Proximity Philippines.

TBWA Santiago Mangada earned one gold for its self-promotion 'Xmas cards' in the Design category. They also won five silver and six bronze awards with their work for Boysen and Shangri-La taking the bulk of the medal haul.

Ace Saatchi & Saatchi notched 20 overall, with six silver and 14 bronze, bannered by its work for Safeguard and Toyota, while DM9 JaymeSyfu took home nine awards consisting of three silvers and six bronze, with work for brands Mini and Pharex.

Other agencies that picked up medals were JWT Manila (two silver and five bronze); Ogilvy & Mather (one silver and two bronze) Publicis won one bronze. AMP/amon + Maneze, McCann Worldgroup, Publicis JimenezBasic and Revolver won one bronze each. 

A creative guild lifetime achievement award was given to Mario Monteguado, whose career involved working with brands such as Volvo and Rustans.
