Uniqlo to launch in Singapore and SEA

SINGAPORE - Uniqlo will open its first store in Singapore at the new Tampines 1 mall on Thursday, to mark its first entry into the city-state and the Southeast Asia region.

The Japanese casual-wear brand will make available more than 200 items specifically selected for the Singapore market. Its Singapore stores, with a second one set to open in Orchard’s ION mall in August, will also aid its globalisation plans, with the Lion City being a key strategic move to enter other markets in this region.

“The stores in both Tampines 1 and ION Orchard will offer consumers of all ages the perfect balance of fashionable, basic casual wear with the best quality at the lowest prices in the market. To ensure that our consumers enjoy the unique Uniqlo service experience, our staff are trained in the Uniqlo way,” said Satoshi Onoguchi, co-managing director, Uniqlo Singapore.

“We believe that the launch of Uniqlo in Singapore will enable us to establish our brand in Southeast Asia, reinforcing Uniqlo's positioning as a truly global brand,” he added.

Uniqlo began its global expansion overseas in 2001 in the UK and currently boasts operations in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, USA and France.

The Japanese brand had appointed Tribal DDB and PHD as its creative and media agencies in Singapore in January.
