Public Relations: Law returns to head Ketchum Shanghai

SHANGHAI: Ketchum Newscan has appointed former senior corporate affairs manager at Standard Chartered Bank, Eva Law, to head its Shanghai office.

Public Relations: Law returns to head Ketchum Shanghai

In her new role as general manager, Law succeeds Alice Yue, who will leave Ketchum at the end of June to pursue a new career direction.

Law's appointement comes in the wake of Ketchum's recent success in winning McDonald's China PR account. Her brief will include senior strategic counsel for key clients, along with overall office management and team development.

Law spent seven years at Standard Chartered, where she handled corporate reputation, crisis and issues management across Hong Kong, China and North Asia.

Law began her career at Ketchum Newscan Hong Kong in 1986. "I have always kept in very close contact with Ketchum, and when this opportunity came up, I knew it was the right one for me," she said.

"Eva offers our clients a wealth of experience in brand marketing, corporate positioning, issues/crisis management and CSR counseling," said Kenneth Chu, CEO of Ketchum Newscan. "Her ability to strategise at Greater China and regional basis for our multinational clients, as well as her depth of strategic counsel and creativity, add tremendous value to our client services in this important market."

Law will assume responsibility for a client roster that includes McDonald's China Development Corporation (CDC), Procter & Gamble, Tag Heuer and FedEx.

"The challenge for PR people is how to make the best for every client," explained Law. "I have got the mandate to grow the business and also to counsel staff and share my experience with them."

With the Shanghai communications market continuing to grow, competition for business remains fierce. Law believes that Ketchum Newscan Shanghai is in the 'top five', but cautions against complacency.

"The competition is keen - not just from local, but also international agencies," she said. "I do have some plans for the office but I don't think I am in a position to talk about them."

Yue, meanwhile, leaves Ketchum after six years at the Shanghai office.

"During her six years of service with Ketchum Newscan Shanghai, Alice has shown great passion for new business development, not only in Shanghai but also across China," said Law.
