Philips Semiconductors rebrands
Philips Semiconductors been renamed NXP to indicate the company's independence from Royal Philips after more than 50 years.
A consortium of private equity investors has taken over 80.1 per cent of the company, while Royal Philips will retain 19.9 per cent. In view of the overhaul NXP has launched a global brand campaign, 'What if you could', running in print and online media.
Under Philips, the company was traditionally known as a manufacturer of semiconductors, while NXP has positioned itself as a provider of "vibrant media technologies".
