TOKYO: Cathay Pacific Airways has launched the mobile version of
its internet site on a 3G mobile phone network. The Japanese network -
Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access - was set up last month by Japanese
telecommunications company NTT DoCoMo.
The network reportedly provides data connections about 40 times faster
than conventional mobile communications. The system allows mobile users
to access voice and data communications.
The service is presently limited to the area within a 30km radius in
Tokyo, however, it will be expanded to include Osaka and Nagoya.
Cathay's manager of commercial websites, Dominic Purvis, said: "The
ultra high speed will also enable us to explore some new concepts that
were never possible before."
