Media choice: City Magazine - Helen Cheung, Account manager, MEC Hong Kong

A home-grown magazine with 27 years of history in Hong Kong's turbulent publications industry is nothing short of a miracle - and City Magazine is that miracle.

Media choice: City Magazine - Helen Cheung, Account manager, MEC Hong Kong

I feel great pride that Hong Kong has this magazine, which is 100 per cent locally-produced with all its originality and creativity.

However, it has become obvious that its distinctive cultural and intellectual tone, which used to give the magazine a distinguished character, has been diluted by commercial elements in recent years.

Of course, this can be an unavoidable problem as the magazine industry becomes more and more commercialised.

I sincerely hope, however, that City's editorial team can find a balanced way to solve this issue and regain the character that the magazine used to have.

In a few years, City Magazine will celebrate its 30th anniversary. It would be very interesting to arrange an exhibition of back issue covers, especially for 'City fans'.

City Magazine is well known for its outstanding photography, both on the cover and within its pages as well - as is clearly demonstrated by the cover of its February 1986 issue, which featured Japanese celebrity Sachiko Kuru.
