Industry mourns creative guru Chu

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's advertising industry is in mourning after the passing of creative veteran Mike Chu, who died from cancer, aged 53.

Industry mourns creative guru Chu

Chu, husband of film star Cherie Chung, left the industry in the mid-’90s after a distinguished career, which included landmark work for the likes of Crocodile, Puma and Titus Watch, and a swag of international awards.

During the ’90s, he was the only Chinese creative named in the Wall Street Journal’s World Creative Leader league table. “Mike’s death is a great loss, as he was a genuine legend.

The milestones he set and his practices were seen as the gold standard,” said Royce Yuen, chairman, Hong Kong 4As.

Ronald Yue, ex-partner and MD of Synergie, where Chu was CD, said: “Mike was an inspirational role model for young creative talent when the advertising industry was booming.”
