CONNECTION: Sohu scores with World Cup site for China league

BEIJING: Sohu.com has beaten rival China portals for the contract to produce and develop the Chinese Football Association's 2002 World Cup Official Site.

With an estimated 34 million internet users in China, the web contract is seen as a major win for the portal.

According to Sohu, it will produce, host, market and operate the site for the CFA, the governing body of football in China, in time for the World Cup, which takes place this summer in Japan and Korea.

Sohu aims to offer access to World Cup matches, with breaking news, real-time results, analysis, as well as background information on the site at http://worldcup.sohu.com.

Content will be provided by Sport-01, a sports management company based in China.

Sohu.com will also set up an online shopping site at htpp://store.sohu.com, featuring commemorative books and souvenirs.
