Warc announces Asian Strategy 2017 winners

SK-II’s ‘The Marriage Market Takeover’ was the Grand Prix winner at this year’s Warc Asian Strategy awards.

Unveiled yesterday, the list of 16 winners is dominated by India, which took home 10 awards, including a gold that also ran in Pakistan. China was next with three awards.

The awards celebrate the best strategic campaigns that have driven solid business results in Asia. In total, the jury panel awarded one Grand Prix, five golds, five silvers and five bronzes.

Five special awards were also given honouring specific areas of excellence:  The Market Pioneer Award, The Research Excellence Award, The Channel Thinking Award, The Local Hero Award and The Asia First Award.

Created by Sweden’s Forsman & Bodenfors, SK-II’s campaign took on the cause of unmarried women in China. Nicole McMillan, vice president of marketing at The Wrigley Company APAC and the Warc awards jury chair, praised its boldness in taking a very distinct position.

“Taking a taboo subject can be fraught with danger, however SK-II managed to navigate these complexities to construct a strategy and narrative that has struck accord with consumers and judges alike," she said.

This year’s awards saw nearly 200 entries from 17 countries across Asia, which were judged by panel of 25 agency and client-side industry professionals.
