PRWEEK: PRO snares Harbour Fest push

HONG KONG: Local marcomms specialist Pro Marketing Services Company (PRO) has clinched the PR component to the Hong Kong Harbour Fest in the run up to the entertainment extravaganza, set to be held at Admiralty's Tamar Site from October 17 to November 9. PRO has been tasked, on a project basis, to manage a massive media relations drive as part of a broader awareness initiative (Media, September 5).

According to PRO director Catherine Cheung, the consultancy's role has mushroomed into strategic crisis communications, amid attacks by both the public and local media on the cost viability of the initiative. Government body InvestHK, which has administered funding, and AmCham's Sports and Entertainment Committee (S&EC) have come under intense scrutiny - despite claims that the annual event will put the HKSAR back on the international tourist map.

She added that the inflated costs of attracting the Rolling Stones - expected to play having cancelling at the height of the SARs epidemic - reflected the added costs of a documentary being produced which would be aired worldwide.

Cheung reports to AmCham S&EC chairman Michael Denzel and vice-chairman Jon Nierman.
