Motorola splashes China city in colour

Motorola is plugging into Chinese heritage for the launch of a colour-themed campaign that covers several of its handset lines.

The mobile phone manufacturer held its 'Motorola colours and design exhibition' in Xi'an because of the city's powerful history. The exhibition event itself involved a number of colourful executions in high-visibility areas in Xi'an, and included the decoration of the city's famous Terracotta Warriors in strips displaying Motorola's new colours.
According to Ian Chapman-Banks, Motorola's marketing chief for North Asia, mobile devices, there was a natural link between Xi'an and Motorola. "We really looked at places and things where we could bring colour where there previously was no colour," he said.

"The new (schemes) bring out strength and emotion, restoring colour to ancient Xi'an, just like Motorola is adding new colours to the once generic (black and silver) mobile phone. This exciting fusion of modernity and heritage creates a strong visual impact and artistic resonance."

The new colour schemes were created by designer Jim Lambie, and are available for a number of Motorola's product lines, including the Motorazr V3i, Motoming, Motopebl and Motoslvr and MotoL6. According to Chapman-Banks, the colour schemes will be integrated into existing campaigns.
