HP launches online design contest in Singapore

SINGAPORE - HP is launching an Arc Worldwide-produced interactive site for local designers to showcase their craft that will in turn be displayed on Singapore's largest media wall at the ION Orchard mall.

The online contest, dubbed Lightropolis, promises to be a virtual utopia for animators, engineers, architects as well as designers to push the boundaries of their imagination, and use light as an expressive medium in four design categories.

The initiative further serves to promote the technology firm’s HP Workstations that are usually used by these same professionals.

Going live on 19 March, the HP Lightropolis site will feature an interactive tool that allows visitors to develop their dream creations.

The creations will then be showcased on the website, as well as on LED screens that line the ION Orchard mall’s entrance/exit into the Orchard MRT station from April onwards. These selected entries, will be among the firsts in Singapore to be showcased on various media facades on the new mall.

“Creativity knows no boundaries. However, designers in various fields do not often have the opportunity to showcase their vision and creative ideas beyond their vocation. With Lightropolis, HP hopes to provide that platform for local talents in the arts and creative industries to not only showcase their creativity across different applications, but also show how these creations can be brought to life effectively through digital media, said Serena Yong, general manager, Personal Systems Group, HP Singapore. “In addition, we are pleased to play our part in cultivating a culture of creativity amongst the local design community,”

Valerie Cheng, creative director at Arc Worldwide Singapore, added that the inspiration for this campaign came from interacting with local creative industry personnel who are looking for more avenues to showcase their work.

Besides the website, direct mailers and posters in schools and tertiary institutions have also been put out to drum up publicity for the contest.

HP Lightropolis is a partnership between HP and ION Orchard and is supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) as part of its inaugural Media Fiesta 2009.
