Dominic Purvis (pictured), who took up the role earlier this year, said that airlines needed to look at more than just the most efficient and effective bio-fuel, but also aircraft upgrades and technology, navigation and improved infrastructure. “Airports and navigation needed for new technology are just not ready and it may take 15-20 years before they are,” he said.
Purvis, who was speaking at the Green Works conference in Hong Kong, said that Cathay Pacific had cut its fuel consumption by 1.3 per cent through shortened flight paths on regional and long-haul flights, and were the first airline in Asia to implement a carbon offsetting scheme.
