In an announcement published in the group's English language daily, the South China Morning Post on December 8, chairman Kuok Khoon Ean, said the former investment banker had resigned to pursue "other personal goals".
"As deputy chairman and publisher, Tad has made substantial contributions to the group and helped to bring about positive changes to the organisation," he said.
Beczak will remain as a non-executive director of the SCMP Group after he leaves on December 31. His resignation comes as the paper finishes celebrating 100 years of publishing in Hong Kong and eight months after David Armstrong returned to take up the role of group editor-in-chief.
In a note to staff Beczak said; "It has been a great pleasure to work with such a talented group of people in the South China Morning Post's Centenary year".
Beczak's appointment as publisher in August last year came at a time of turbulence among the senior editorial staff. Two days after the announcement, Thomas Abraham resigned as editor and a four-editor structure was put in place.
