It is no secret that diversity is good for business. Not only does it allow for different viewpoints, enabling more creative solutions to problems, it also drives up employment engagement and retention rate, which is vital for business continuity and growth. In fact, companies with a greater percentage of women executives, and those that are more ethnically and culturally diverse are known to perform significantly better than their counterparts. Hear from APAC’s diversity trailblazers on why workplace inclusivity is crucial for business morale and performance.

Session 1 Lifting women up the leadership ladder

Studies have shown that a diverse leadership leads to improved company culture and better business. Yet, the number of women in leadership remains glaringly low. Only 8% of Fortune 500 companies are led by a woman and less than 15% of board members are women in APAC. In this session, Kyoko Matsushita, Essence’s Global CEO, is joined by three 2020 Women to Watch winners for a fireside chat on the need to advance more women to leadership roles. How can leaders create spaces where employees of all backgrounds feel empowered to reach out and speak out? How can the industry ensure that workplace diversity is sustainable and scalable?

Session 2 Allyship: the power of speaking up

Dismantling systemic racism, sexism and bias requires hard work and sacrifices. In the past year, we have seen leaders step down in protest of a lack of diversity at their own companies and industries. We have seen others leverage their privilege to hire and promote others. Why is allyship important in the battle for greater workplace inclusivity - and what makes a good ally?

Session 3 Why intersectionality is key to diversity in the workplace

To achieve true workplace inclusivity, there needs to be a recognition that an individual’s experience is influenced by a myriad factors, including ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion and cognitive ability. First developed by Kimberle Crenshaw as a way to consider how one can be subjected to different types of inequalities, intersectionality is gaining traction in the business world. Join us for a conversation on how intersectionality could provide a framework for greater workplace inclusivity.
