NEA hunts agency for dengue prevention campaign

SINGAPORE - The National Environment Agency (NEA) has launched a tender for an agency to develop an online campaign for its dengue prevention outreach programme in Singapore.

Targeting primary school children, the new campaign will feature a website that will serve as a communications medium to encourage children and youths to develop habits to prevent mosquito breeding. Messages on dengue fever prevention will also be incorporated through comics.

The appointed agency will host and maintain the website for two years and will develop online games and downloadable content for its targeted audience as well.

The NEA regularly engages private and public sector partners to develop and roll out dengue prevention activities due to cyclical outbreaks of dengue fever in the city-state.

A key strategy employed by the authorities to prevent dengue fever outbreaks is to keep the mosquito population low, which effectively reduces the transmission of the disease. Homes and public places in Singapore are regularly inspected as well.

In January, Singapore recorded a surge in dengue fever cases. More recently in June, the country recorded a sharp spike in locally-transmitted malaria.
