SingTel mio kicks off football season with TVC from Arcade

SINGAPORE - SingTel mio TV has kicked off its second season of Barclay's Premier League (BPL) football with a new TVC from boutique agency Arcade.

Arcade was appointed as an agency of record for SingTel in December 2010 after winning a tender to create and produce the new mio Stadium TVC.

The new TVC was filmed on a state-of-the art Red Epic digital still and motion camera, flown in from the US especially for this project. Arcade was founded in 2010 by Nick Marrett, Matt Cullen, Gary Tranter and Mark Taylor. The agency has already picked up major clients including SingTel, Unilever, Citibank and Ritz Carlton.

SingTel has also beefed up its BPL coverage with new local shows, an enhanced mobile and online experience, more HD and 3D ‘live’ matches, plus two new on-air hosts.

The telco is believed to have paid in the region of S$400 million (US$330 million) for the exclusive Singapore broadcast rights for 3 seasons of BPL from 2010-2012. SingTel’s pay-TV rival StarHub reportedly paid S$120 million (US$99 million) for the previous 3 seasons.

“We’ve carefully considered feedback from our customers and made changes in order to ensure that fans get the sort of coverage and programming they want,” said Edward Ying, chief, multimedia at SingTel.

mio TV will show all 380 EPL games ‘live’ and over 200 matches in HD. Two channels have been upgraded to HD and viewers can now also enjoy a live match in 3D every month.

Popular football presenter John Dykes continues to front the premier league broadcasts, while existing hosts Soo Kui Jien and Dom Lau are joined by Richard Lenton and Tara Rushton. Patrick Kinghorn is absent from mio TV this season following an alleged on-stage altercation with a co-host at a 3D live screening.

The augmented presenting team will re-launch two of mio Stadium’s popular local programmes, Samsung Score! and Tiger Goals on Sunday. In addition a brand new show titled Tiger It’s Your Shout! kicked off on 15 August.
