McCann Worldgroup tipped to have won global China Telecom account

HONG KONG - McCann Worldgroup Hong Kong is tipped to have won a pitch to become China Telecom’s creative agency-of-record for its global branding account.

The pitch took place in the first quarter of this year, and the company has set up its overseas global head office in Hong Kong.

McCann Worldgroup will be in charge of the overall branding, with the initial focus on its global B2B business.

An undisclosed source told Campaign Asia-Pacific that as most large Chinese companies have their headquarters in the Chinese mainland, it was quite unusual for China Telecom to set up its HQ for overseas business in Hong Kong.

Representatives from McCann Worldgroup declined to comment on the news.

China Telecom has two holding companies, China Telecom and China Communications Services, with 23 overseas branch offices in 15 countries and regions, as of the end of 2010.

McCann Worldgroup Hong Kong also recently won Café de Coral's creative account.
