It is believed that the winner of the account will eventually handle the bank’s entire online communications portfolio, which includes the personal banking and corporate group websites. Currently, Saatchis handles online executions for UOB.
However, a source at the agency said that it was not involved in the review.
The second round of presentations was held last week. Invited agencies were asked to discuss topics such as ‘the future of the internet’ and ‘how UOB should position itself for the website rebrand’, according to the brief. Since then, sources say that UOB has demanded agencies to produce finished websites within a week, for further consideration.
UOB internet services arm VP Rudy Winto, who is reportedly managing the review, declined to comment.
According to a recent report, 40 per cent of UOB’s customers bank online, while the volume of e-transactions has increased by 50 per cent in the last three years.
“The bank has been wanting to do something more with its website for a while, so it makes sense to appoint a specialist,” said another source.
This month, UOB followed in the footsteps of OCBC, Citibank and DBS by implementing a two-factor authentication (2FA) system to grant customers greater online security.
