Thai brand CP Foods journeys through time to serve nostalgia in a plate

Meals are sentimental. CP Foods’ latest six-minute ‘The Best Blessing’ work takes it up a notch.

Meals stitch together core memories that dwell deep inside the psyche and capture snapshots of times that should've really been cherished more. And while meals aren't always tearjerkers, CP Foods' latest campaign, 'The Best Blessing', does exactly that. According to the brand, the ad has moved 60 million Thais, more than 80% of the country’s population.

At its heart is a daughter caring for her sick mother. Set in a modest kitchen, the ad opens with a familiar Thai expression of love: asking if someone has eaten. Through cracked walls, shafts of sunlight, and muted, moody colours, the film blasts viewers back to childhood, tracing bonds once forgotten.

Created by TBWA Thailand Juice, the campaign reconstructs a flood of memories in a literal blast to the past through cracked walls, shafts of sunlight, and moody, muted colours. In one poignant moment, the daughter’s younger self kneels with her mother, incense in hand, wishing she could be a little more selfish, so she might live longer. Guilt, hope, and longing collide, all tied back to that humble bowl of soup.

Campaign's take: Think Thai melodrama meets surreal domestic cinema. Yes, six minutes (and seven seconds, for the pedantic) is a lot of time spent with soup; it could easily be trimmed by 2-3 minutes without losing a lick of narrative or emotion. While themes of health and family are well-trodden in regional ads, the spot lands through intimate, cinematic storytelling that feels genuinely Thai.
