DDB strengthens Asia-Pacific healthcare practice

SYDNEY - In a move to strengthen its regional healthcare practice, DDB has appointed James Hammond (pictured) to the newly created role of director of health for Asia-Pacific.

The hire coincides with the promotion of Sharn Bedi, currently head of DDB Health Singapore, to head of DDB Health Southeast Asia. In the expanded role, Bedi will continue to manage the agency in Singapore.

According to John Zeigler, president and chief executive of DDB Asia Pacific, Japan and India, the appointments will help the agency develop its healthcare business on a regional level.

Zeigler added that he expected the practice, which represents 15 per cent of the agency’s business in certain markets in Asia, to account for 20 per cent within the coming 18 months.

Hammond joins the Omnicom agency Publicis Healthcare Communications, where he served as regional development director. In his previous role, Hammond reportedly developed opportunities in the Chinese mainland market with the merger of existing consumer, PR and specialised healthcare agencies. Other focal markets included India, Japan and Singapore.

He will be based in Sydney and report to Zeigler.

DDB Health’s client portfolio includes Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), Novartis, Pfizer and Schering-Plough.
