Hong Kong advertising agency e-Crusade developed the widget, which is part of the brand's iCoke online platform.
The Chinese-language application, launched last week, asks players to complete a set of challenges to make it to the relay finish line. Players' results are then posted on Google Maps, said Janet Lee, project manager at e-Crusade. "It's the first time we're having the torch relay come through Hong Kong, so we wanted to create a virtual torch relay online for every Hong Kong citizen," she said. "Facebook is a very popular site with lots of Hong Kong people going to it today, so it was the best way to get the most networking and traffic."
Lee said e-Crusade has launched similar applications in the past, including a Facebook widget for Coke Zero.
The application runs in conjunction with Coca-Cola's official torch-tracking website.
