Leon Zhang joins MediaCom China to lead social media

BEIJING - Leon Zhang, who has nearly 10 years' experience in digital marketing, has taken up the role of national head of social media at MediaCom China, where he is tasked with providing a more performance-led approach to social media offerings.

Zhang (pictured) joined the MediaCom Beijing office earlier this month, bringing with him nearly a decade of digital marketing experience in 4A agencies and at Microsoft. He will be responsible for developing social-media opportunities through creative execution, content management and audience analysis for the agency’s key clients, including Volkswagen, Cofco, GlaxoSmithKline, ICI and China Unicom.

Prior to joining MediaCom, Leon was lead digital strategist at Burson-Marsteller, where he led the social media team and business in China. He also gained production and operational expertise at Microsoft, where he was web production manager, digital, and brand consulting experience at Azurio and MRM Worldwide.

Zhang has served on a wide range of international and local clients, such as Haier, HP, Huawei, Motorola, L'Oreal, adidas, Lexus, UPS, Lufthansa, Philips, Reckitt Benckiser and Johnson & Johnson.

“We are developing an approach to social media which brings Leon's content and community background, together with the team’s data and analytical skills to provide a more performance-led approach to social,” said Chris Baker, vice-president of MediaCom Interaction China.

Meanwhile MediaCom China has also had two internal promotions among its digital talents. Jessie Tang, previously head of digital in MediaCom Beijing, was promoted to head of digital operations, MediaCom China. Coolio Yang, previously digital director in MediaCom Shanghai, was promoted to business director.
