The Uluru Statement releases first TVC ahead of referendum

The campaign urges Australians to vote in support of enshrining the First Nations Voice in the Constitution.

The Uluru Statement, a call for First Nations Voice to be enshrined in the Constitution in Australia, is a long and difficult journey before it gets materialised. In the Uluru Statement’s first TVC, The Monkeys produced a campaign called ‘History is Calling’ to raise awareness in the lead up to a referendum and to encourage Australians to show their support.

The campaign centres around narrator Trevor Jamieson, a Pitjantjatjara and Nyungar man, as he tells a story about how First Peoples achieved a Voice to Parliament with the help of Australians. But the story ends with a sobering ‘what if’ twist—and it illustrates what a future might be if Australians supported the Voice at the upcoming referendum. Ad Nut urges those voting to watch this film in advance.

The ad is directed by Kamilaroi man Jordan Watton, alongside cinematographer, Arrernte and Kalkadoon man Tyson Perkins, and music composer, Yuwaalaraay man James Henry.
