To be re-named the AFF Suzuki Cup, the biennial event will be co-hosted in Indonesia and Thailand this year following a five-team qualifying tournament in Cambodia in October.
Previously known as the Tiger Cup, the Singaporean brewery had sponsored the tournament since its inception in 1996, but ended contract for the previous event, leaving it sponsorless.
“Having done it for four tournaments, Tiger opted for a break and in the last edition. It was known neutrally as the Asean Football Championships,” explained Anthea Chee, marketing manager of World Sport Group.
“It is great news that Suzuki will be backing the AFF Suzuki Cup. Sponsorship is the lifeblood of the game and we are fortunate to have secured a wonderful new partner,” said AFF president, Ahmad Rithauddeen.
The event will be managed by World Sport Group, the exclusive marketing partner of the Asean Football Federation.
