Challenges
The big challenge Showcorp faced was to make the first flight arrival celebrations live up to the
massive sense of anticipation of the A380. Showcorp’s event production team worked closely
with Singapore Airlines to optimise the impact and success of every aspect of the event.
Colin Baldwin, Showcorp’s managing director, says: “The A380’s first flight was the latest in
a long history of aviation and customer service achievements for Singapore Airlines.”
Execution
Arriving guests were welcomed by ‘Singapore Girls’ who ushered them to a marquee lit in
Singapore Airlines’ blue and yellow colours. Examples of all three Singapore Airlines A380
travel classes were on display.
While guests were treated to canapés and drinks, Showcorp was coordinating the clandestine
relocation of the world’s largest passenger aircraft from its arrival gate to the event venue at the opposite end of the airport, where it was carefully edged into position, just feet from the
unsuspecting audience.
Following the official formalities, the MC directed the audience’s attention to the vast screen as the house lights dimmed to black, and a presentation began.
A view down a simulated runway accompanied by audio effects gave the audience the
illusion of being on the tarmac as the A380’s final approach occurred directly overhead.
After the audience was barraged with a wave of lights and sound, the curtain dropped to reveal the A380, just feet away from the surprised guests.
Verdict
“The audience was obviously not expecting to see the giant aircraft sitting in the very same position as the projected A380 had been just moments before," says Baldwin. “Our MC then invited the audience to board the aircraft and check it out.” Shannon Sweeney
