Pernod Ricard's Chivas whiskey launch in Shanghai

Pernod Ricard wanted to put together a double event to launch the Chivas Regal 25-yearold Scotch Whisky in Shanghai and also to celebrate the brand's 100th anniversary.

The company’s top clients were to be invited to spend a night at Shanghai Exhibition Center, with the Chivas Regal master blender, Colin Scott, as well as several celebrities from Hong Kong and China. Catering was by Grand Hyatt.

Challenges
The meal for the night consisted of pairings of different varieties of Chivas Scotch with different
dishes – so it was important for the dishes to be prepared as prescribed.

All the food was prepared on site at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, which was across town from the location of the hotel, and equipment had to be brought in to ensure that the standards
were maintained.

The executive chef of the Grand Hyatt was also on-site to oversee the preparations.

Execution
The event started with a redcarpet walk and photo sessions with the master blender Colin Scott,
various socialites, and celebrities.

Guests were then entertained by the screening of a short film produced especially for the event
by the Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Fung, and starring several of the actors present
among the guests.

The master blender then led a tasting session of a blend of whisky he described as his “greatest accomplishment in life.” The night also featured a performance by jazz chanteuse Laura Fygi in addition to a dance performance. There was also a cocktail party post-dinner.

Verdict
“Pernod Ricard was pleased with the planning and execution of the off-site catering,” says
David Tseo, director of events and conventions at Grand Hyatt Shanghai.

“They were impressed by the hotel’s efficiency in operations and the wonderful food that
was presented.”

Tseo also says feedback from the events agency Emotion was very positive.
