Kodak in regional first with Facebook

ASIA-PACIFIC - Kodak is switching investment into social media for the first time in Asia-Pacific.

The photography brand is launching a Facebook application via OgilvyOne and Neo@Ogilvy in Singapore.

The ‘Make something fun’ application launches on the networking site this week.

Facebook members who add the application to their profile will be able to enter text by a photo then listen to the photo ‘talk’ to them.

The application promotes the roll-out of Kodak’s M-series of digital cameras across Asia-Pacific. It will be pushed first in Australia and New Zealand, where a PR campaign will launch shortly. It is part of a broader series of campaigns promoting Kodak’s Smart Capture digital camera technology.

The goal of the campaign is to encourage consumers in their 20s to forward the application to their friends.
Despite the growth in digital photography, Kodak has been slow to invest in online media. However, Damien Cummings, general manager of Neo@Ogilvy Singapore, believes the Facebook drive is the start of things to come.

“People are uploading and sharing their photos via social networks, online galleries or blogs,” he said. “It is only natural that Kodak would shift towards digital and social media marketing.”
