DHL regional PR manager Geoffrey Bye has quit to join e-commerce
start-up OneAsia.com.
Mr Bye has taken the firm's global PR and marketing role as chief
marketing officer, based in Hong Kong.
OneAsia, a Hong Kong-based venture, sells Asian music and movies online
and has ambitions for global expansion within a year, predicting revenue
of US$16.6 million.
The company already has a corporate agency in Hong Kong, having retained
Hill & Knowlton at the end of last year.
H&K handled the OneAsia worldwide launch in December.
The start-up is seeking PR agencies in the rest of Asia-Pacific, the US
and Europe, initially for market entry strategies, he said.
PR agencies are expected to lead brand building rather than advertising,
said Mr Bye.
OneAsia's range of more than 60,000 Asian movie and music titles on CD,
VHS videotape, VCD and DVD will be targeted at Hong Kong and Taiwanese
consumers but will include the large expatriate Asian communities
worldwide.
"India is on our horizon and we're looking to go up to more than 200
employees across the region and North America by the end of the year,"
said Mr Bye.
Its two marketing teams are based in Hong Kong and Taiwan, which handle
strategies for its third office in Vancouver.
The heaviest recruitment will take place in the Hong Kong and Taiwan
offices, Mr Bye said.
"It took 80 years to build the Coca-Cola brand while Yahoo and
Amazon.com took 24 months.
"We've got a year."
