The app is available free of charge to users outside of the US fro the App Store. The CNN app is purpose-built and designed to provide a visually-driven news experience for iPhone and iPod touch users.

The CNN app features push notification and regionalisation and personalisation tools among others. The 'My CNN' personalisation function lets users follow a story or topic through push notification, save content for easy access to text stories even when offline and select content from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America or the Middle East.

The CNN app delivers important global news through text, video and photos, and also offers users the ability to upload content through CNN's user-generated news community iReport.

Each story features bulleted highlights above the full article, designed to satisfy mobile 'snackers' looking to scan through the latest stories. Users can also share stories via email, Twitter and Facebook directly from the CNN app.

Leading wind power company Suzlon will be featured via banners ads as launch advertiser on the app.
