Watch these cat videos right meow

Cat-food brand Meow Mix revives a 1970s earworm with a series of splendid remixes—along with backstories for the fabulous feline artists.

Remaking a classic ad may seem derivative, but remixing a classic ad can be brilliant. At least it is in the case of the above fresh takes on a legendary earworm campaign that Purina cat-food brand Meow Mix has been using, off and on, since the 1970s.

If you're not familiar with the source material, here's a typical Meow Mix ad from the 1980s.

OK? Meow you are ready to enjoy the clever remixes above. Ad Nut is partial to the metal mewlings of Lord Purrdition and his band Endless Hiss, but the country duo Hearts & Paws also makes Ad Nut purr in delight. If you want to delve futher into the fabulous lives of these furry artists, Meow Mix has you covered with a catty fake news site. For example, check out this item about how pop diva Luna was spotted in the Miami penthouse of fiery rapper-turned-producer Gatocito

The campaign is by PSOne, the Publicis Groupe’s Power of One team. Ad Nut thanks the ad nuts at Campaign US for bringing Ad Nut's attention to this fine and important work, especially in a week where news events have Ad Nut desperately in need of a mental break.

Ad Nut is a surprisingly literate woodland creature that for unknown reasons has an unhealthy obsession with advertising. Ad Nut gathers ads from all over Asia and the world for your viewing pleasure, because Ad Nut loves you. You can also check out Ad Nut's Advertising Hall of Fame, or read about Ad Nut's strange obsession with 'murderous beasts'.
