Commercial Radio overhauls online presence

HONG KONG - Radio broadcaster Commercial Radio has relaunched its website at 881903.com to provide more efficient live broadcasts over the internet.

Anna Chu, director of business development at Commercial Radio, said the changes would create more openings for advertisers.

"There are more opportunities for them to do tailor-made integrated on-air and online content," she said
FM 881 targets mature listeners, featuring news and financial programmes, while FM 903 focuses on youth culture and pop music.

Current advertisers on Commercial Radio include Cathay Pacific, Citibank, HSBC, adidas, Nike and McDonald’s. Ad sales on both 881903.com and My903.com are handled by Pixel Media.

Users can now install a ‘Hong Kong toolbar’, a small panel embedded into their internet browser through which they can listen live to stations CR1 FM 881, CR2 FM 903 and AM864, as well as a newly launched music channel called Tan Button. The toolbar uses instant messaging to send the latest news to the user’s browser pane. A ‘hot button’ will soon be added, providing interactive content such as online games, voting, photos and video sharing.

Alice Yu, business director of Starcom IP, said: "It’s a good time to focus on the internet. Radio penetration is dropping as consumer behaviour changes, with more time spent online. Publishers and commercial radio are adopting an approach that satisfies all kinds of customers."
