SEOUL - BBC Worldwide Channels has signed a deal with KT Corporation, a South Korean telecommunications service provider, to distribute its World News programme on the latter's Qook TV IPTV platform.

The agreement will provide Qook TV viewers with access to global news and Asia-focused current affairs features such as the Asia Business Report. The BBC will gain access to a potential audience of around 350,000 via the platform.

In a statement, Mark Whitehead, general manager and senior vice president of BBC Worldwide Channels Asia, described the move as “our first foray into the IPTV platform in Korea, and a reflection of our commitment to maintaining and expanding the availability of BBC World News on new technology platforms” in the market.

Qook TV is KT’s residential services brand, covering such areas as landline telephony and internet as well as IPTV.

The channel will launch on Qook TV tomorrow.

Last month, it was announced that KT would operate an outdoor media property for advertisers and broadcasters in downtown Seoul in conjunction with Cheil Worldwide.
