Seasol delivers gardening tips like you've never seen them before

Seasol’s Dirty Old Secrets is a hilarious and heartfelt dive into the quirky, time-tested gardening tricks older Aussies have been perfecting for decades.

Ad Nut has green fingers and loves a good gardening tip. While a clever hack might just be useful for humans, for us woodland creatures it can mean the difference between life and death.

So, naturally, Ad Nut was glued to the screen when Seasol, Australia’s seaweed plant tonic, released a ten-part documentary series unveiling the tips, tricks, and quirky wisdom older gardeners have kept buried for decades.

Called 'Dirty Old Secrets', the binge-worthy shorts cover quirky topics from “getting your citrus together” to “garden in God mode”, all delivered with humour and heart, voiced by hip hop artist L Fresh the Lion.

In the first episode, we meet Carolyn, whose citrus “brings all the boys to the yard”, though she locks the gate to keep them out. Her secret? Letting citrus soak up 6-8 hours of sun daily, because “citrus are the opposite of English backpackers, they can never have too much sun.”

The series delivers essential gardening wisdom wrapped in laughs, reinvigorating what could otherwise be a sleep-inducing subject, especially for a surge of younger Australians discovering gardening’s joys.

As Gavin Chimes, chief creative officer at Howatson+Company, puts it: “When your most loyal consumers are ageing, you have two options: fade away with them or create new relevance. Dirty Old Secrets takes what quietly happens in the best backyards and makes it loud, bold, and impossible to miss.”

Ten episodes might seem like a lot for today's distracted youth, but Ad Nut was hooked throughout, though one episode on growing the best cashews wouldn’t go amiss.
