Universal veteran Thurlow departs

SINGAPORE - Jonathan Thurlow is departing his role as SVP and deputy regional director of Universal McCann after 10 years with the agency in Singapore.

His Singapore duties will be assumed by IPG Media Malaysia chief Gaurav Bhasin, who becomes CEO of the Singapore office.

“My past 10 years based in Singapore with UM have been engaging and rewarding, but I feel it’s time to look for new opportunities,” said Thurlow.

It is not believed that Thurlow has confirmed his next destination. Thurlow has spent over 20 years with Universal McCann, after joining the agency in London in 1985.

He relocated to Singapore in 1997, to oversee its MNC client division and Singapore office. In addition, Thurlow oversaw the launch of UM Consulting in 2005.

Bhasin will not be replaced as CEO of IPG Media Malaysia. Instead the two agency brands - Universal McCann and Initiative - will remain under separate local management.

New Universal McCann Asia-Pacific chief executive officer Jeff Cressall added that it was a “disappointment” to see Thurlow leave.
