SmarTone hands media to CIA for renewed HK drive

HONG KONG: SmarTone has tapped CIA for media planning and buying in a pitch that involved incumbent Starcom and ZenithMedia's newly-opened second shop, Equinox.

CIA Hong Kong general manager, Dominic Ng, said the media pitch went right down to the wire, with the focus being on SmarTone's desire to stand out in the crowded market place.

Last month, the telco chose Saatchi & Saatchi as its creative agency after it split with Leo Burnett. Sources said that SmarTone had been quiet over the past year but that it was now adopting a more aggressive stance as operators prepare to battle for dominance of the 3G market.
