The highly-rated Simpson joins from Ogilvy & Mather Philippines, where he spent almost two years as ECD.
His arrival is accompanied by the transfer of Ogilvy Hong Kong’s other ECD, Annie Wong, to the role of regional creative partner on the Dove account.
Simpson led a creative renaissance during his stint at Ogilvy in the Philippines, winning a slew of metal at global awards shows and headlining some eye-catching creative work for the likes of Kotex and Pond’s.
“He’s a dream hire because of the international ambition of this office as a regional hub,” said Ogilvy Hong Kong managing director Adam O’Conor. “He has the perfect hybrid skills.”
Simpson has also worked at Leo Burnett Kreasindo in Indonesia, and also had stints at DDB, Y&R and Ogilvy in his native Malaysia.
His replacement at Ogilvy Philippines has yet to be found.
Meanwhile, Ogilvy Philippines has moved to fill the top positions in its direct and public relations operations.
Ogilvy veteran Elly Puyat, formerly client services director, has been promoted managing director of OgilvyOne.
Meanwhile, former San Miguel group account management director Beng Prado joins to head up Ogilvy PR, thus ending a 10-year spell with the brewing giant.
