Saatchis keeps Sony Ericsson in Asia

LONDON - Sony Ericsson has awarded its US$160 million global advertising and communications account to McCann Erickson London, displacing incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi, however the Publicis Groupe agencies will continue to handle the telco giant's advertising in Asia Pacific.

Sony Ericsson's VP, marketing, Asia-Pacific, Chris Lee confirmed that the regional account would remain with Saatchi & Saatchi, run out of the Singapore office.

The network also holds on to the account in Latin America and Europe.

Dee Dutta (pictured), corporate VP and head of marketing at Sony Ericsson based in London said in a statement: “We have very ambitious goals for the Sony Ericsson brand. Moving forward, we are looking at increased integration across all of our marketing disciplines including online, print, TV and retail as well as greater consumer engagement. McCann has a deep understanding of how this works and can help us to grow the brand globally even further.”

McCann London has worked with Sony Ericsson on launch projects in the past, and the news marks a renewal of the relationship. The agency will focus on creating global campaigns.

Dutta added: “Saatchi & Saatchi have done a good job for us so far, especially at a regional level, and they will continue to be a partner of Sony Ericsson.”
