How is the PR industry faring in India right now? The industry in India is doing better than some of the other Asia Pacific markets. In terms of positioning, it is steadily moving beyond pure publicity and is now being recognised as a strategic planned approach for building corporate and brand reputation.
What do you enjoy about your work environment? There is something new to look forward to and learn from every day! Also as it is a young business in India, the average age of PR professionals is 28 years so the teams are always enthusiastic.
What piece of advice would you give someone trying to break into PR? Today you can't just stroll into PR, it is much too professional. You need to know what PR is and what it can achieve and more importantly choose a popular industry area which interests you enough.
Your biggest mistake? Expecting colleagues to have the same level of commitment and drive consistently is unfair.
Your greatest achievement? Taking on the challenge of starting a new branch office in Mumbai, a highly competitive and active PR market, at the age of 24! This is now the second-largest location for Genesis in India.
Where do you see yourself in the next two years? Playing the role of regional market leader to the best of my capability, developing and leading a strong team of professionals. Or being the best possible beach bum; always striving to do my best!
